Iceland Trip (GCSE Geography)

Day 3 (31 January)

The day started with a visit to the Lava Centre followed by a trip to the black beach with coastal landforms which were  being pounded by sneaker waves. Then we trekked to the snout of the Solheimajokull glacier followed by an amazing afternoon visiting Skogafoss waterfall. Weather conditions changed quickly at the waterfall which meant we stayed to dinner at HotelSkogafoss and entertained ourselves with a quiz night. Once the roads were safe and clear we drove back to our hotel;  some of us were then treated to a display of the northern lights.

Check out the trip gallery for more images here.

Day 2 (30 January)

First stop this morning was the geothermal hot pool of the Secret Lagoon where, after a chilly dash outside to the pool, we relaxed in the warm water in the snow; an amazing experience. Next stop was Gullfoss waterfall followed by a farm visit and then a walk through Thingvellir. The scenery is stunning, especially with the snow cover. Dinner was rounded off with snowballing, snow angels and sledging. We should sleep well!

Day 1 (29 January)

A great first day experiencing the geologically young landscape of western Iceland. The snow added excitement for all! So proud of how all the students have embraced the day including the 3am start.
