World Book Day - 7th March 2024
AVA joined schools all around the globe to celebrate World Book Day on Thursday 7 March. As well as adding more than 200 new books to the secondary library, we also issued hundreds of WBD free book tokens to students so they could purchase a book of their own.
WBD forms a part of AVA's annual "Book Week" which actually runs for a fortnight and features a number of activities, events and competitions all based around the theme of "Reading for Pleasure".
Special mention must be made to students Callum W, who won our "Shelfies" competition by guessing which bookshelf belonged to which member of staff, Ethan C, the winner of the "Literary Come Dine with Me" and runner up in the "Meme Stream" creative writing competitions, Connor L, who won the Literary Treasure Hunt, and Jessica M, who won Meme Stream.
Congratulations also to the many students who participated in the above activities as well as Book Recommendation Bingo, the Design a Book Token art competition, Book Dingbats, the Fictionary quiz, who found a Golden Ticket whilst choosing a library book to read or enjoyed playing a round or two of "Book Trumps".
Last but not least congratulations to the students of 7 Franklin 1 who won the Year 7 form time book quiz, closely followed by 7 Nobel 3 as runners up. An honourable mention also to 7 Faraday 2, recipients of the "wooden spoon" prize for being the closest with their tie breaker answer. Hope you all enjoyed your sweet and chocolate prizes! Many thanks to all of the staff who gave their support to our literacy initiative, including Mr Cluett and Mrs Quinell, pictured.
