The Importance of PSHE Education at AVA
Personal, Social, Health, and Economic (PSHE) education is part of the UK national curriculum, designed to help children stay healthy, safe, and ready for life and work in modern Britain. Covering areas like health and well-being, relationships, careers, and global awareness, PSHE is a statutory subject under the Children and Social Work Act.
At AVA, we are dedicated to strengthening our PSHE curriculum. We believe parents play a vital role in supporting their child’s learning in PSHE and RSE (Relationships and Sex Education). To help us improve, we value your input and invite you to share your feedback through a short survey HERE.
After Christmas, students will study the following topics in PSHE:
- Year 7: Self-concept – self-esteem, friendships, respecting others.
- Year 8: Relationships – friendships, social influences.
- Year 9: Relationships – mental health, bullying.
- Year 10: Healthy lifestyles – mental health, online safety, alcohol risks.
- Year 11: Personal safety and self-care – online safety, managing risks, alcohol risks.
- Sixth Form: Misogyny and consent – responsibilities, looking out for others, consequences.
We understand that some parents may have questions about specific topics, especially within RSE. If you’d like to discuss anything further, please don’t hesitate to contact us HERE.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us deliver a meaningful and effective PSHE curriculum!
