Art Department Collaborates with Sculptor Michelle Dufaur on Inspiring Project for Students
This autumn, students from the Art Department had an inspiring experience working with the wonderful artist Michelle Dufaur, whose vibrant sculptures have earned admiration for their creativity and depth. Organised in collaboration with Waddesdon Manor, the project involved students from Year 4 through Year 11, giving each age group the opportunity to contribute to a unique sculpture.
The project began with each student individually designing a "scale" for a dragon sculpture, drawing upon one of the thematic words - strength, good, bravery, luck, or courage. Michelle Dufaur then led a series of hands-on workshops with students from Years 6, 8, 9, and 10, guiding them through the process of adding layers of colour and intricate details to the dragon. These layers served as the foundation for the collective scales, building a stunning patchwork of textures and colours.
The final sculpture—a dragon adorned with each student's individual "scale"—is now proudly displayed at Waddesdon Manor’s Stables, standing alongside other works of art as part of the Manor’s annual Christmas Light Festival.
The collaboration not only gave students a first-hand experience with a professional artist but also allowed them to see their work exhibited in a prestigious setting.
